St. John's Lutheran Church Council Members in Attendance: Ken Berney, Dennis Braesch, Lynell Hajek, Brett Handy, Ken Hanson, Lori Stratton, Troy Strom, Lon Timperley, and Carol Waggoner. Absent: Nancy Jacobs, Dennis Smith, Richard Uhlir, Tracy Nerem and Pastor Del Wiemers.Lon Timperley gave the opening devotion and called the meeting to order. The Secretary's Report was approved as written. Pastor Del's Report: Pastor Del had left a message that everything is going well. Tracy handed in a written report. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The letter sent to the Benefaction Board on August 8, 2007 was reviewed by Council and Council is awaiting their response. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Christian Education: Confirmation guides and Sunday school teachers are being recruited. Plans for Rally Day are being formed. Rally Day will be September 9, 2007. Outreach: Bible Tidbits will be placed on KPNO with Dan Melkus doing the readings. Outreach is looking into getting Pastor on Cable. More new members will have orientation on August 25 and be received at all three services that weekend. Adult Education: Lutheran Small Catechism for Adults will begin Rally Sunday, September 9th. The committee is trying to arrange a financial program for members of St. John's. Finance: Budgets need to be back to the Finance Committee before the next scheduled meeting, September 12 at 7 pm. An IRA tax deduction opportunity for those over 70 ½ years old was discussed. The information about the deduction will be placed in the Beacon & Bulletin for St. John's members' benefit. Property: The committee is looking into ways to repair the roof, stoves, windows, etc. Capital fundraising for roof repair & addition was discussed. Parish Fellowship: Programs are being arranged for the 4th Sunday Potluck. Primetime luncheon went well and will continue. Project coffees with Pastor are being discussed. Project coffees would be people coming and doing some projects around the church and then having coffee with Pastor. Worship & Music: Usher/Greeter schedules and communion schedules were discussed. New Hymnals will be implemented soon. We have 130 new hymnals and money for 40 more. A new monitor will be put up in the Sanctuary to allow Pastor and anyone standing at the Altar to see PowerPoint. Majesty Choir will start rehearsing September 6th and will meet every Thursday at 7 pm. New members would be warmly welcomed. A "Majesty Choir" party will be held at Ken & Susan Hansen's place on August 30th. ChristCare: A new ChristCare group will be starting up in September. Food Pantry: St. John's has the Food Pantry in September. Alice Gentzler is heading it up. Carol Waggoner will be giving Temple Talks on August 19 & 26. FUTURE BUSINESS
Items of concern for the next meeting will be nomination committee for Council and Benefaction Board, Calendar Review, Capital Fund raising, and Members In/Out Report. Closing Devotion: Lynell Hajek gave the closing devotion. Troy Strom will give September's. Next Meeting is September 12 at 8:00 PM following the committee meetings.
